516: Take Your Career From Accidental to Intentional with Scott Jeffrey Miller

One of my favorite people to watch over the years has been Scott Miller. He interviews tons of wonderful authors for his podcasts and other projects. I learn something new every time I watch him work.

I’m thrilled to be able to welcome him back for the second time to Read to Lead. The first time was back in 2019.

This time we’re chatting about his new book (surprise!). It’s called Career On Course: 10 Strategies to Take Your Career from Accidental to Intentional.

Most careers, Scott says, unfold accidentally, haphazardly, and with too much serendipity. That means lost traction, lost years, and lost opportunities. But your career doesn’t have to be that way! Career on Course unpacks the 10 steps that will take your career from accidental to intentional.

Drawing upon insights and best practices from three decades in professional and leadership development, Scott shares his proven process for creating a plan that empowers you to take control of your career.

The most successful professionals are those who have clarity, have a plan, live in accordance with their values, and know how to pivot in the face of disruption. Whether you’re just starting your career or you’ve found yourself stuck somewhere in the middle, this book will help you get your career on course

I hope you’ll click the play button below to learn more about Scott and his work. For a summary, just keep scrolling.

319: The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People 30th Anniversary Edition

With author Stephen M. R. Covey

What an honor it is to be asked to participate in the launch of the 30th Anniversary Edition of the #1 business book of the 20th century!

And what a treat it is to talk to the son and namesake of the author himself, Mr. Stephen M. R. Covey.

stephen m r covey

I can honestly say, if the Read to Lead Podcast were to come to an end after today, I would be at complete peace with that.

Why? Because today I am privileged to conduct what is arguably the single most important interview of my 30+ year career.

Not only is Stephen M. R. Covey an accomplished author in his own right (with a New York Times and #1 Wall Street Journal bestselling book under his belt), but he’s agreed to field a handful of questions from a handful of those impacted by his father’s book over the years.

By “those impacted” I’m talking about you! That’s right. Every question I’m posing to Stephen was submitted by a listener to the podcast.

Of course, the book I’m referring to is called The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People: 30th Anniversary Edition.

This is a ‘can’t miss’ conversation!

285: The 10 Laws of Trust with JetBlue Chairman Joel Peterson

Every so often I get to have a conversation with someone I never dreamed I’d be talking to. Today is one of those days.

Several years ago he released a book with a publisher that has since been acquired.

joel peterson

This new publisher decided today’s guest’s book needed a rerelease and we are the beneficiaries of it.

His name is Joel Peterson and his book is called The 10 Laws of Trust: Building the Bonds That Make a Business Great.

Joel says trust is the glue that holds an organization together. It turns deflection into transparency, suspicion into empowerment, and conflict into creativity.

10 Laws of Trust is the playbook for breaking through the operational silos and CYA mentality that plague so many organizations today.

266: 6 Energy Habits to Master the Business Travel Life

With author Bryan Paul Buckley

I first met today’s guest just less than three years ago at a podcast conference taking place, that year at least, in Chicago.

His name was Bryan Buckley, and he was as energetic a 40-something guy as I’ve ever met. Lucky for me, Chicago is his hometown. Otherwise, who knows if we would have met that day.

bryan paul buckley

I’m so glad we did (thank you Mike Kim). That meeting has blossomed into a friendship. Bryan invited me to speak at his online conference he held a couple of years ago.

We met up again at another conference last year in Nashville (Michael Hyatt’s Achieve Conference) and the friendship deepened (it didn’t hurt that Bryan treated me to an excellent steak dinner). 🙂

As you can imagine, I was delighted then when I heard he was working on a book. That new book is out now and is called Elite Road Warrior: Six Energy Habits to Master the Business Travel Life.

If you travel for work 40 plus nights a year, you’ll find his book to be extremely valuable, especially if you’re attempting to take back control of your personal and professional life, and your physical and mental health.

If that’s you, read this book now!
