Every so often I get to have a conversation with someone I never dreamed I’d be talking to. Today is one of those days.

Several years ago he released a book with a publisher that has since been acquired.

This new publisher decided today’s guest’s book needed a rerelease and we are the beneficiaries of it.

His name is Joel Peterson and his book is called The 10 Laws of Trust: Building the Bonds That Make a Business Great.

Joel says trust is the glue that holds an organization together. It turns deflection into transparency, suspicion into empowerment, and conflict into creativity.

283: Creating a Remarkable Culture with Chick-fil-A Veteran Dee Ann Turner

During my last stint in radio, which spanned a 14-year period, a Chick-fil-A restaurant was eventually erected less than a mile down the street.

I wasn’t yet familiar with the phenomenon that was the chicken sandwich, but I soon would be.

To say that my interactions with this establishment’s staff were the best I’ve ever experienced doesn’t do them justice.

As I eventually made my way to other franchises around town, I quickly realized my initial experiences weren’t one-offs.

Every franchise I visited I encountered the same friendly, courteous, and helpful staff. Something about this place is just different, I realized.

How do they do it? And, just as important, why don’t more companies do it?

I answer these questions and more with my guest today, Dee Ann Turner, the former VP of Talent at Chick-fil-A.

She’s also authored a brand new book – her second – called Bet On Talent: How to Create a Remarkable Culture That Wins the Hearts of Customers.
