As I take some time off to visit with family, I decided to create this special encore episode just for you.

These five interviews just happen to be among my all-time favorites, and not just because they include discussions on one of my favorite topics.

220: Communication Secrets to Get From Good to Great

With bestselling author Carmine Gallo

This week’s guest is the kind of guest that makes other authors go all giddy. Seriously.

Last time he was on the show, Carmine Gallo had one New York Times bestselling author telling every speaker he knew about one of Carmine’s past books.

carmine gallo

In his new book called Five Stars: The Communication Secrets to Get From Good to Great, Carmine breaks down Aristotle’s ancient formula of persuasion to inspire us.

As the nature of work changes and technology carries things across the globe in a moment, communication skills become more valuable – not less.

When people express their ideas effectively, Carmine says, they’re more likely to win dream jobs, sell products, build brands, and trigger movements.

200: A Look Back at 5 Killer Books on Public Speaking and Effective Communication

Wow, what a road this has been. Over 4 1/2 years after the podcast began, episode 200 is here. It has been an incredibly rewarding journey.

I’ve decided to take a look back over the last 100 episodes and feature 5 episodes that centered around one of my favorite topics.

episode 200

These episodes each touch on a topic I think is so important, I ask a question related to it of nearly every guest that comes on the show.

I’m talking about communicating, relating, and, more specifically, public speaking. The art of public speaking and the ability to relate effectively to other people is as important, in my view, as any skill you can hone. In fact, if I weren’t doing the Read to Lead podcast, I’d likely be doing a public speaking-related show. Maybe someday.

Episode #157: Mastering the Art and Science of Exceptional Presentation Design

With The Compelling Communicator Author Tim Pollard

I’ll be the first to admit I have a soft spot for books on messaging. For me, it’s just a subject area where I feel as if there’s always something more or new to learn.

And if my writing in the margins, and all the highlighting and underlining I’ve done inside my copy of today’s featured book is any indication of the amount of insights I’ve gained, then look out because I’m about to be awesome!

tim pollard

My guest today is a chap named Tim Pollard. I call him chap because he’s originally from the UK and, last time I checked, that’s what they call each other over there. Now, however, Tim lives in Billings, MT of all places, so I’ll just call him friend.

His new book, as the image above might have clued you in on, is called The Compelling Communicator: Mastering the Art and Science of Exceptional Presentation Design.

Tim and his company, Oratium, have worked with LinkedIn, Salesforce, Disney, Rockwell, Ericsson, and Graybar, to name a few, and they specialize in training TEDx speakers.

Devouring this book with help you to “powerfully land a small number of big ideas.” Mastering that is the key to any memorable and actionable presentation.

Episode #142: From the Head to the Heart

Becoming a Heart-Led Leader with Tommy Spaulding

In the opening of his latest book, my guest today says “the journey to heart-led leadership covers only 18 inches, but it lasts a lifetime.”

That is, the distance from the head to the heart is just 18 inches. New York Times bestselling author Tommy Spaulding divides his new book, The Heart Led Leader, into 18 main chapters, each one focused on a different aspect of the journey and highlighting people and companies exemplifying heart-led leadership at its best.

It begins, Tommy says, with asking these questions: Who are you? Who do you want to become? What do you want to be known for as a person and as a leader? And what is your leadership philosophy?

This philosophy will serve as a compass to guide every action and decision.
