Episode #051: From Day Job to Dream Job with Kary Oberbrunner

Kary OberbrunnerI am thrilled to introduce author Kary Oberbrunner to you on this 1-year anniversary of the Read to Lead Podcast!

His latest book is Day Job to Dream Job: Practical Steps for Turning Your Passion into a Full-Time Gig.

Simply put, I loved it. If you’re dissatisfied with the current state of your career (and studies suggest that 86% of us are), then I believe you will love it too.

I especially appreciate that Kary doesn’t stop with simply telling  you what you need to do. He goes so far as to lay out a 9-step plan for how you can accomplish it. And he’s no armchair quarterback. Kary himself moved from day job to dream job in early 2013.

Episode #035: Ryan Avery, Author, Speaker Leader Champion: Succeed at Work through the Power of Public Speaking

Ryan AveryHave you ever witnessed someone else succeeding at something and thought to yourself, “I could do that?” Well, that’s the very same thought that entered Ryan Avery’s mind when he first saw a YouTube video of someone delivering the winning talk at the World Championships for public speaking.

At the age of 25, just 6 months after viewing that video, Ryan Avery became the youngest World Champion of Public Speaking in history; competing against more than 30,000 people from 116 countries to claim the 2012 World Championship title. Needless to say, his life hasn’t been the same since.

And if you’re wondering if the topic of public speaking sounds familiar, you’re right. It takes center stage for the second week in a row, and that’s no accident. Ryan has recently coauthored the book Speaker, Leader, Champion: Succeed at Work Through the Power of Public Speaking, featuring the prize-winning speeches of Toastmasters World Champions.

Episode #026: Best of 2013 Vol. 1

read to lead 1Even though the Read to Lead Podcast is less than six months old, we’ve already been fortunate to welcome as many as eight New York Times bestselling authors into the guest chair.

It seemed fitting then, on this Christmas Eve edition, to take a look back at what we’ve learned and the ground we’ve been able to cover. The Best of 2013 Volume 1 spans the first twelve episodes of the show.

Episode #001: New York Times Best-Selling Author Dan Miller

Dan MillerDan Miller is a hero of mine, and not just because he agreed to be the first guest on the podcast. We’re kindred spirits of sorts, what with our mutual passion for reading, as you’ll hear in this inaugural episode.

Dan says that if he ever stops learning, “just dig a hole and push me in. Because I’m of no use to anybody.”

Episode #000: An Introduction to the Read to Lead Podcast

read to lead solid gold 1It’s finally here!  The Read to Lead Podcast has launched. Thanks for taking an interest in this project.

This initial episode is intended to acclimate you to what can be expected week in and week out. Because of that, it will be short (about 7 1/2 minutes). Most of the episodes I’ve recorded so far are in the 35 minute range.  To listen to the introductory episode, just click the play button below.

There’ll be a new episode each Tuesday. However, at launch, you have access to the first three episodes in addition to this introduction. Those include conversations with New York Times best-selling author Dan Miller, author Robert D. Smith and author and podcaster John Lee Dumas (Entrepreneur on Fire).
