363: The Common Path to Uncommon Success with John Lee Dumas

On the day Read to Lead was launched back in July of 2013, I had prepared three interview episodes to release on that day.

One of those interviews was with a guy who makes his first visit back in nearly 8 years. His name is John Lee Dumas, and if you’ve enjoyed listening to podcasts for any length of time, you’ve no doubt heard his name.

Several years ago, I had the pleasure of participating in a lively discussion at the New York Public Library on the topic of podcasting.

On the panel with me were two other podcasters, one of whom has since written a book, and an incredibly stimulating book it turned out to be.

When the organizer of that event recently reintroduced us, I knew I had to have him on the show.

What an honor it is to welcome Joann Lublin to the podcast. She’s a former Wall Street Journal career columnist and shared the 2003 Pulitzer Prize for her writing on corporate scandals.

She’s coming on to talk about her new book called Power Moms: How Executive Mothers Navigate Work and Life.

In the book, Joann compares two generations of women – boomers and GenXers – to examine how each navigates the emotional and professional challenges involved in juggling managerial careers and families.

359: How to Make Your Family Business Last with Mitzi Perdue

When it comes to the people I appreciate the most, it is those who go out of their way to make introductions to people with common goals.

One such person is former guest and co-creator of the Chicken Soup for the Soul series, Mark Victor Hansen.

Mark was kind of enough to introduce me recently to his friend Mitzi Perdue. She is a prolific author in her own right, having written numerous books.

She’s also the widow of the late Frank Perdue of Perdue Chicken, and daughter of the co-founder of the Sheraton Hotel chain. To say she’s qualified to discuss the successful leading of family businesses is an understatement.

That’s why I’m so glad Mitzi agreed to come on the show with me to talk about her 2017 book called How to Make Your Family Business Last.
