Oyster is to Reading what Netflix is to Movies

oyster_iphone_app_iconIt’s one of those, “Why in the world didn’t I think of that?” sort of apps.

Oyster Books offers you the opportunity to read all the books you want for just $9.95 a month. In other words, what Netflix did for movies and Spotify did for music, Oyster hopes to do for books. The company touts over 100,000 titles at launch.

The Oyster app is free to download but you’ll have to enter your credit card info before you can get access to actual books. Currently, the app is available for iPhone and iPod Touch only, but Oyster says it will be coming to the iPad soon. No word yet on when an Android tablet or phone version might be available.

It’s been one week since the launch of the Read to Lead Podcast. Because you listened, downloaded, subscribed, rated, reviewed and shared it with your tribes, launch week could not have been more amazing.

Top Podcasts - Career - Day 2 - #5_567X211

The podcast managed to crack the Top 20 of all Business podcasts in iTunes! This category combines Business News, Investing, Career and Marketing & Management-focused podcasts, among others. This feat alone would have been awesome enough, but it didn’t stop there.

On day two, the Read to Lead Podcast stood at #5 among all Career-focused podcasts in iTunes, right behind Dave Ramsey’s EntreLeadership Podcast and Dan Miller’s 48 Days Podcast!  Since then, the Read to Lead Podcast has consistently remained in the Top 10!

This was a complete surprise to me. There were benchmarks and goals I set for sure, but because of the support of people like you, those benchmarks and goals were obliterated!  Thank you, thank you, thank you!

What’s Next?

Tomorrow, I’m excited to share the latest episode (#004) with you. It will feature author, speaker and renowned blogger Jeff Goins. In early 2011, Jeff decided to get serious about writing.

That process began with Jeff committing to getting up at 5am every morning for a year to write for two hours. This and other goals Jeff set for himself led to publishers knocking on his door just 8 short months later and offering him a book deal.

Regardless of your dreams and passions, let Jeff’s story serve as a case study for living your life intentionally. It’s hard to believe that this is the same guy that, eight years ago, interviewed with me for a job (I didn’t hire him!).

If you haven’t already, be sure to subscribe so that you don’t miss a single episode. You can do that several ways:

  • Subscribe via the Stitcher Radio App (the Stitcher smartphone app is awesome)
  • Subscribe via iTunes (this is also where you can rate and review the podcast)
  • You can subscribe via the Zune part of the XBox Live Store, but there is no direct link for that (sorry)
  • Soon, you will be able to subscribe via the Blackberry network

If you prefer a simple RSS link? I have that too!

Want the most recent episode?  Here it is again!

#003: John Lee Dumas of Entrepreneur on Fire on the Hottest Trend in 2013

Finally, when you subscribe, might I BEG you for an iTunes Review? That link goes to very simple instructions on how to do just that in less than 4 minutes. It would mean a great deal to me.

And, if you’ve been impacted by an episode, I’d love to hear more about it. Feel free to share in the comments below.

Thank you SO much for believing in this endeavor and helping spread the word!

The Read to Lead Podcast is Finally Here!

What?! You haven’t subscribed yet? There are several ways you can listen.  I know, that’s so awesome of me, right?

Get it straight from the website by clicking HERE.  The first four episodes are waiting for you now.

Our very first episode includes a conversation with New York Times best-selling author Dan Miller.

To make sure you don’t miss a future episode (’cause I’d hate to have to come to your house) there area several ways you can subscribe:

You can also subscribe to RTLP (that’s slang for Read to Lead Podcast) via the Zune part of the XBox Live Store, but there is no direct link for that (sorry).

Want a simple RSS link? I have that too!

Want the most recent episode?  Here it is!

#003: Entrepreneur on Fire host John Lee Dumas on the hottest trend in 2013

When you subscribe, might I BEG you for an iTunes Review? That link goes to very simple instructions on how to do just that in less than 4 minutes. It would mean a great deal to me (go ahead and click it…remember, I’m watching).

This is important whether you actually subscribe via iTunes or not. Why? Because…

  1. iTunes is king when it comes to podcasting
  2. The first 2 months of a podcasts life are critical
  3. Ratings (5 stars especially) and written reviews (just a sentence or two) help new podcasts get noticed in the iTunes New & Noteworthy section.
  4. Making it into New & Noteworthy can mean the difference between staying power and fizzle.
  5. If you find it worthy of 5 stars, I will mention you in a future show!

So, are you with me?

Now, think of anyone and everyone you know who might enjoy this podcast and forward this newsletter to them now!

You’ll appear influential and knowledgeable when you do.  AND, you’ll be practicing what our next guest, Jonah Berger, calls leveraging “social currency.”

Isn’t learning awesome?

Cheers,

read to lead solid gold 1It’s finally here!  The Read to Lead Podcast has launched. Thanks for taking an interest in this project.

This initial episode is intended to acclimate you to what can be expected week in and week out. Because of that, it will be short (about 7 1/2 minutes). Most of the episodes I’ve recorded so far are in the 35 minute range.  To listen to the introductory episode, just click the play button below.

There’ll be a new episode each Tuesday. However, at launch, you have access to the first three episodes in addition to this introduction.
