265: Ryan Levesque on the Single Most Important Decision Before Starting Your Business

Author of the new book, Choose

One of the most generous people I know is the guy who makes a return visit to Read to Lead nearly four years after his first stop.

His name is Ryan Levesque and he’s the kind of guy that, on the day his new book releases, he decided to GIVE IT AWAY along with a couple of hundred bucks in bonuses.

That new book is called Choose: The Single Most Important Decision Before Starting Your Own Business. Click that link and you only pay shipping ($7.95).

Ryan is throwing in a few hundred bucks in extras and a few surprises along the way as well.

See? Pretty generous, right?

He freely shares quite a bit of his knowledge in our conversation today also (we chatted for nearly an hour). If, after listening, you can’t get enough of Ryan (who can blame you), head on over to the Boss-Free Virtual Summit (before May 7) where Ryan is one of over 34 speakers on the topic of starting a business and being your own boss.

264: Life Is Too Short to Do Things You Can’t Stand!

Back in 2016, my friend Jeff Goins shared some strong feelings on Facebook about complaining when it comes to your job.

I’ve included an excerpt of that post below:

jeff brown

I’m sorry, people. But you can’t hate your job and do nothing about it. Either change your circumstance or stop complaining. Your employer deserves better—and so do you.

And please, please, PLEASE don’t tell me you have no options. You have options. Lots of them:

-You can quit.

-You can change departments.

-You can do something on the side that makes your current situation more tolerable.

You have a choice. You may not like it. It may not be easy. But you are not stuck.

263: How to Ignore Everybody, Carve Your Own Path, And Live Your Best Life

With author Laura Gassner Otting

Some people just seem to have it all together. Others actually do. Today’s guest is in the latter category.

I’m talking about Laura Gassner Otting, a highly sought after speaker, consultant, and executive coach.

laura gassner otting

Laura brings both tough love and wisdom and offers a no-holds-barred look at what it really takes to get out of your own way and earn your success today.

Among other things, Laura and I discuss her new book Limitless and the knowledge and experience she’s gained in interviewing thousands of leaders at crisis points in their lives and their careers.

If you ever dreamed about discovering and crushing that personal goal that is so big and so scary that you’ve only dared whisper it to yourself, this book is the permission you didn’t even know you needed to live into it as only you can.

262: How to Win Life’s Trials Without Losing Yourself

Featuring author Heather Hansen

One of the things I love about hosting Read to Lead is the wonderfully talented and interesting people it enables me to meet.

Today, that person is former trial lawyer Heather Hansen.

heather hansen

After 20 years of winning trials in the courtroom, Heather teaches us how to use those skills (asking questions, mastering objections, building credibility quickly and persuading effectively) to be better leaders.

Among other things, Heather and I discuss her new book The Elegant Warrior and her vast experience at helping others stand up for themselves and their businesses.

If you want to learn how to be someone who fights adversity with grace and compassion and battles without losing respect for yourself and your adversaries, then give this episode a listen.

261: Great Leaders Have No Rules with Kevin Kruse

New York Times bestselling author

Today’s guest is a New York Times bestselling author and has written over a half dozen books. How then could this be his first visit on the show?

I’m not sure I can answer that. But, I’ve decided to make the most of my time with Kevin Kruse and squeeze not one but TWO interviews out of him.

kevin kruse

Kevin is not only my guest on the podcast today, but will be one of 32 speakers worldwide who’ve accepted my invitation to join me for my upcoming online conference called the Boss-Free Virtual Summit.

If you desire to make the break away from traditional work to going your own way, be sure and grab your free seat for the summit via the link above.

Today, however, Kevin and I discuss his new book and many of his contrarian views on traditional leadership.

Things like: closing your open door policy, the difference between being likable and being liked, why you should reveal everything, including salaries, and more.

This is a real in-depth conversation on a leadership model for the 21st Century. I really think you’re going to enjoy it.
