227: How to Revolutionize Your Career and Make Big Things Happen

With Derek Loudermilk, author of Superconductors

Three years ago this month, I had the privilege of appearing on The Art of Adventure podcast.

The host, Derek Loudermilk interviewed me about reading and podcasting (surprise!). Fast forward a few years and he’s leveraged what he’s learned interviewing fellow adventurers, and has turned that knowledge into a new book.

derek loudermilk

Derek has lead a pretty exciting life. He is a professional adventurer, polymath, bestselling author, publisher, speaker, digital nomad, business coach, father, Lord of Sealand, and host of The Art of Adventure Podcast

He’s also a former scientist and has a degree in biology. They don’t come any more well-rounded than this guy.

Derek’s book is called Superconductors: Revolutionize Your Career and Make Big Things HappenIn it, he says the steady career path is a thing of the past: disruption is here to stay.

He continues that you need to be able to keep learning, growing and reinventing yourself to stay valuable in the midst of this change. Superconductors shows you how.

226: Rules for Remarkable Remote Leadership

With Kevin Eikenberry, author of The Long-Distance Leader

If you work in a traditional office setting but have coworkers who work remotely, you’re probably a bit jealous from time to time.

They don’t have to commute all the time. They can work in their pajamas. The list goes on and on.

kevin eikenberry

Funny thing is, if you’re the one working remotely with coworkers who work in a traditional office setting, you no doubt worry about the advantages they may have in regard to promotions because they’re being seen more than you are. They can get the bosses “ear” at a moments notice sometimes. Birthdays? No cake and ice cream for you. You’re not there.

“The grass is always greener…” mentality, I suppose.

These remote work issues and more are being addressed in a new book by Kevin Eikenberry and Wayne Turmel. That book is called The Long-Distance Leader: Rules for Remarkable Remote Leadership.

Today, I interview Kevin as we dive into the key insights and main ideas from the book.

225: How to Reinvent Yourself as a Leader (Because Eventually You’ll Need To)

With John Hillen, co-author of What Happens Now?

As much as I didn’t want to admit it at the time, I’ve been at a point in my career when I realized I had “stalled out.”

Not only was I no longer growing in my skills and abilities, I’d gradually become less and less useful to my company as a result.

john hillen

I’d come to what co-authors John Hillen and Mark Nevins refer to in their new book as a “career stall.” It was time to reinvent myself, for the organization and for me.

Though I wasn’t able to benefit from their book during my career stall, the good news for you is, you can. You see, you will experience a stall eventually.

Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of What Happens Now? Reinvent Yourself as a Leader Before Your Business Outruns You before that happens.

223: The Key to Your Future Freedom Lies in Freelancing

With author Vincent Pugliese

Vincent Pugliese was living a photographer’s dream; traveling the world, photographing amazingly successful people in politics and sports, and winning accolades and awards while doing it.

The only problem was, despite all the hard work he was putting into his craft, it made not one bit of difference in his income.

vincent pugliese

Working for a newspaper at the time, he was told that while everyone else was getting no raise at all, Vincent would get a whopping 3% increase in pay. Not much when your salary is in the low 30s.

It was at that moment that Vincent knew he had to get out. But with car payments, student loans, a mortgage, consumer debt, oh, and a baby on the way, leaving his job then and there wasn’t an option.

So he forged a plan. Vincent lays out that plan in Part I of his new book Freelance to Freedom: The Roadmap for Creating a Side Business to Achieve Financial, Time, and Life Freedom.

In Part II, he shows US how to do it ourselves.

Listen, over the next 10 years, as many as 50% of the workforce will have become freelancers. If you’re in a job you hate, what are you waiting for? Let Vincent and I share with you the next steps to forging a path to true FREEDOM!
