Episode #191: How to Lead with Gratitude

With Ambition author Seth Buechley

I first met today’s guest just about two months ago at a conference in my hometown of Nashville.

Little did I know that our lunch together would turn into an ongoing discussion that would lead to learning more about his amazing life, business, and book, a conversation that would eventually lead me to invite him to sit in the guest chair.

Seth will be the first to admit he’s made mistakes. He holds nothing back as many of them are front and center inside his book.

But he’s also been a super successful businessman, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. He even helped one company grow to nearly 60 million dollars in revenue before selling it.

He now consults companies all over the US, helping leaders learn the lessons he’s gleaned over the years, many of them the hard way. At the center of it all is GRATITUDE, he says.

In fact, his book called is called Ambition: Leading with Gratitude. I think you’re going to love it.

Episode #189: How to Monetize Your Expertise

With Entrepreneurial You author Dorie Clark

When you look at her body of work, there seem to be few things she hasn’t done. It’s one of the many things I like about her.

In addition to authoring what is now her third book, and the one we’ll dive into today, Dorie Clark has done something few have been brave enough to try. Taking the comedy stage on an open mic night.

Not only that, she’s credited with serving as executive producer on a multiple Grammy-winning jazz album and, oh yeah, is a former presidential campaign spokeswoman, and teaches at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business. Impressed yet? I’m just getting started actually.

You might also recall she’s been with us once before. That was to talk about her book Stand Out, a book that was named the number one Leadership Book of 2015 by Inc. magazine, one of the Top 10 Business Books of the Year by Forbes and was a Washington Post bestseller.

Her latest is a book called Entrepreneurial You: Monetize Your Expertise, Create Multiple Income Streams, and Thrive.

Episode #187: Live Your Startup Dream Without Leaving Your Day Job

With 10% Entrepreneur author, Patrick McGinnis

I was first introduced to today’s guest well over a year ago by former Read to Lead guest Amy Whitaker.

Amy joined us back in episode #134 and, soon after, made the introductions via email. Unfortunately, it was an intro I completely dropped the ball on. Patrick and I exchanged pleasantries, and that’s as far as it went.

Patrick McGinnis

Turns out Patrick and I are both fairly busy, neither of us remembering this introduction until, that is, I was searching my Gmail inbox for some last-minute info I needed to check on before chatting with him.

The moral? Simple. Better late than never. 🙂

Patrick’s now 18-month-old-and-still-incredibly-relevant book is called The 10% Entrepreneur: Live Your Startup Dream Without Quitting Your Day Job.

The key, you see, is diversifying your work portfolio, just as you do your financial one (you do that, right?). In The 10% Entrepreneur, Patrick first makes the case for why you need to think like one (Part I of the book), and follows it up with exactly h0w to go about it (Part II of the book).

With Sean McCabe

If you’ve ever desired to start your own business, you may have toyed with the idea of saving up some money, quitting your job, and going all in.

My guest today, though, has a better model he calls overlap. It’s just like it sounds. It’s possible to leverage the margins of life outside your job and grow your business on the side, even if there are things like small children in the mix for you.

sean mccabe

His name is Sean McCabe and his new book is called Overlap: Start a Business While Working a Full-Time Job. For a limited time, you can snag a free copy of the audiobook here.

Sean’s book is a practical, how-to guide for finally doing that thing you’ve always wanted to do.

Episode #177: How to Turn Fear into Health, Wealth and Happiness

With Fearvana author Akshay Nanavati

Recently, and out of the blue, I had a friend and former client introduce me via email to today’s guest.

As I studied up on him, I decided to check out his book. The main title was, initially at least, lost on me. But when I read the subtitle, that’s when it all came together. I knew this was an author and book I needed to feature.

Allow me then to introduce you to Akshay Nanavati, author of Fearvana: The Revolutionary Science of How to Turn Fear into Health, Wealth and Happiness. For a few weeks, the book is available at that link for free (you just pay shipping). Otherwise, you can grab it on Amazon.

In the book, Akshay essentially asks, “What if you could turn your greatest fears and obstacles into your biggest advantages and opportunities?”

With Akshay’s help, you’ll learn to turn traditionally negative emotions like fear, anxiety and guilt into health, wealth and happiness.
