266: 6 Energy Habits to Master the Business Travel Life

With author Bryan Paul Buckley

I first met today’s guest just less than three years ago at a podcast conference taking place, that year at least, in Chicago.

His name was Bryan Buckley, and he was as energetic a 40-something guy as I’ve ever met. Lucky for me, Chicago is his hometown. Otherwise, who knows if we would have met that day.

I’m so glad we did (thank you Mike Kim). That meeting has blossomed into a friendship. Bryan invited me to speak at his online conference he held a couple of years ago.

We met up again at another conference last year in Nashville (Michael Hyatt’s Achieve Conference) and the friendship deepened (it didn’t hurt that Bryan treated me to an excellent steak dinner). 🙂

As you can imagine, I was delighted then when I heard he was working on a book. That new book is out now and is called Elite Road Warrior: Six Energy Habits to Master the Business Travel Life.

If you travel for work 40 plus nights a year, you’ll find his book to be extremely valuable, especially if you’re attempting to take back control of your personal and professional life, and your physical and mental health.

If that’s you, read this book now!

You Can’t Hate Your Job and Do Nothing About It

Back in 2016, my friend Jeff Goins shared some strong feelings on Facebook about complaining when it comes to your job.

I’ve included an excerpt of that post below:

Photo by Emiliano Vittoriosi on Unsplash

I’m sorry, people. But you can’t hate your job and do nothing about it. Either change your circumstance or stop complaining. Your employer deserves better—and so do you.

And please, please, PLEASE don’t tell me you have no options. You have options. Lots of them:

-You can quit.

-You can change departments.

-You can do something on the side that makes your current situation more tolerable.

You have a choice. You may not like it. It may not be easy. But you are not stuck.

Look. I am a realist.

By no means do I think everyone has to love their job every day, all of the time. I work for myself and it’s no picnic. But I realize this is what I chose, and I deal with it. I try to find something to love every day, even on the days when my boss is a jerk. 😉

But life is too short to do stuff you can’t stand.

Don’t believe the lie that you can’t do anything about your situation. You can. This is the most amazing age in which humans have ever lived. Remember polio? Exactly. The fact that you aren’t dead yet is a friggin’ miracle.

So do something with this one life you’ve been given, please. Or don’t. But for the love of God, stop the complaining. It is quite literally making your life, and the lives of those around you, even more miserable.

I happen to agree with him 1000%. What about you?

Most of us have a lot more control over what we do for work than we realize. We’ve simply made the choices society has told us we should make.

In my last job, I’d been thinking about leaving for a while but never quite got up the courage (I was eventually let go).

I didn’t hate it. I’d just done all I’d set out to accomplish in that industry and desperately wanted something new.

More than that, though, I wanted freedom. I wanted autonomy. Now, I have that!

For example: It’s 1:00 pm as I write this. It’s been a very productive morning.

My wife has suggested I get us some takeout. Awesome.

Do I have to check in with anyone first? No.

Do I need to cut our lunch short or be mindful of an upcoming meeting? No.

Why?

Because I have 11 am to 3 pm blocked out on my schedule EVERY Wednesday as time with her.

So, I’m going to get some takeout.

But first, I have to change because I’m still in my pajamas. I’m serious!

As Jeff says above, it’s not all rainbows and unicorns, but now that I’m on this side, I can’t imagine ever going back. Back to…

  • The god-awful commute
  • The long hours
  • The meetings
  • The incessant ‘reply alls’

If you identify with ANY of this, please do yourself a favor and at least EXPLORE the other options.

How?

The Boss-Free Virtual Summit.

I created this online conference because I want people to be more afraid of NOT trying than of trying, failing (aka learning) and pivoting, or going back to a job.

If going back to a job is the worst thing that can happen, what’s the harm?

No one’s going to die!

When you do eventually die, however, don’t let the fact you didn’t explore other possibilities be a painful regret.

Besides, there’s NO RISK!

It’s free to register, and each day’s sessions will be streamed for three days so you can watch at your convenience.

If that’s not enough time, there’s also an All-Access VIP Pass option for a nominal fee (just $97 for a limited time).

With the VIP Pass, you get:

  • On-demand access to all the talks so you can take as long as you want to watch and come back to them again and again.
  • Over $1000 in speaker bonuses as part of the Boss-Free Bonus Bundle.
  • An invitation to our private Boss-Free Community on Facebook

Either way, it’s FREE to register and watch as it unfolds. Plus just for signing up, you’ll get a free resource from me (trust me, it’s EPIC).

Just click the link below to register for FREE right now:

===>> Give me my FREE Boss-Free Virtual Summit Registration and the EPIC resource from Jeff!

Let’s explore some of the non-complaining options together (with 32 others who have done it, by the way).

I’m saving your spot. Let’s go!

-Jeff

263: How to Ignore Everybody, Carve Your Own Path, And Live Your Best Life
